- Taryn Laleen Drummond

Taryn Laleen was surrounded by culture as a child in which she developed a strong connection with her indigenous roots. Taryn has a heritage from both the Mainland Aboriginal people, and the Torres Strait Islands, mainland, (Yidinji Tribe Cairns), (WuthathiTribe Shelbourne Bay) and the (Ku Ku Yalangi Tribe Mossman), and the Torres Strait, Moa, Darnley, and Yam Islands. Taryn began her career with the Jabiru and Kunjal dance troupes which saw her tour to the Cook Islands in 1992. Taryn has a Diploma in Dance from NAISDA (National Aboriginal & Islander Skills Development Association) Dance College in Sydney, Australia, in her final year Taryn performed at the 1996 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony in Atlanta, GA., with the highly acclaimed Bangarra Dance Theatre. Taryn Was a key performer for the Naroo Dance Company in Sydney throughout the nineties, which latter became the internationally successful Descendance Dance Company. Taryn also performed for ‘A.I.D.T. (Aboriginal & Islander Dancer Theatre) Taryn currently conducts cultural workshops and lectures in schools, colleges and other educational institutions. Taryn has performed and taught extensively in Australia and has shared her indigenous culture in Europe, Asia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Palau and USA.

*2006 Tours New York performs at the United Nations 5th session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues; American Indian Community House, The American Museum of Natural History, The United Nations International Schools, The Australian Consulate General, The International Indigenous Funders Forum, and the Baltimore Aquarium in Maryland with Descendance.

*1997 Toured France and Spain for the Festival of De Pyrenees.

*1997 Was part of Naroo Dance Companies tour of Taiwan, China and Japan, with Aboriginal legends Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter, over 30 performances

*1997 “Sing Awake the Lands” Ngaru dancers host a smorgasbord of traditional cultures including Native American Indians.

*1996 Performing for the Dali Lama Sydney.

*1995-1999 Australia’s first full length laser indigenous movie “Reef Dreaming”, which played for 3 years in Cockle Bay at Darling Harbour (Sydney).
