Nicole Willis

Nicole Willis is a descendant of two Aboriginal tribes of far North Queensland, the Yidinji and Kandu. These tribes are situated in Yarrabah Mission and Lockhart River.

Nicole is the daughter of the founder of Descendance the late great song woman Imelda Willis, who, along with World music entrepreneur Jose Calarco started the dance company in 1999.

Today Nicole assumes her mothers mantle as the cultural head of the company. Nicole grew up in a culturally strong family and began performing at the age of seven. She has been performing ever since.

Nicole has plans to complete Aboriginal Woman's business and lore, and she advises Descendance to meet all the appropriate cultural protocols.

Nicole has played at all the major Aboriginal run festivals in Australia, including:
1992 Mulkudi Festival Mount Isa
1995 Laura Dance Festival QLD
1996 Tribal Colors Festival Cairns
1998 Artists in Residence Yulara Resort Uluru (Ayers Rock)

2000 Descendance in Sydney: completing corporate work, international conventions,
schools, radio and festivals.

2003-2004 Descendance leader in Alice Springs at The Red Centre Resort, performing two shows a day, and winner of the Brolga Award in 2003. Nicole's duties include day to day operations, to looking after the dancers, media liaisons and protocol issues.

Nicole assists Descendance with the planning of its international touring operation. The company has been to fifteen countries and is one of Australia's most toured international acts.

Nicole is recording a traditional CD of original works from her family and tribes in 2004.
